MATERIALS
Our vacuum cups are manufactured from two materials:

PVC vinyl: This is our primary material as we find it to be the softest yet hardest wearing material - the soft, pliable nature of the product offers excellent sealing capacity with wear resistance which is greater than rubber.

Silicone: This material is also soft but provides a greater temperature range (see chart below). However it does not have the same wear resistant properties of vinyl. Although we carry some silicone cups in stock mostare available on a special order basis.

Material Working temp Wear resistance Oil resistance

Vinyl 0°c to + 50°c Excellent Fair

Silicone -45°c to + 200°c Good Good

Replacing a Vacuum Cup

Step 1

Match your existing cup to one of the styles in the vacuum cup catalogue.

Step 2

Turn to the selected styles specification in the vacuum cup catalogue (e.g. If you have a chosen type, detailed specifications can be found in technical information).

Also consider the diameter of the existing cup to be the minimum and if possible increase it as the area of the cup determines it's bonding capability and force between the cup and the picking area surface.

Selecting a Vacuum Cup

Step 1

Select the size by determining the best seal or picking area - ideally you are seeking a smooth surface to achieve a good seal. If you are not sure of the lifting capacity of the different cups you can use the Lifting Forces chart on this site.

The larger the cup the more lifting force will be available. If however, a single cup cannot be used consider multiple mountings of smaller cups on a manifold block.

Step 2

Select your preferred vacuum cup style in the vacuum cup catalogue. For example, if the sealing area is not smooth, consider a featheredge cup (e.g. 2E) and if a pulling motion or immediate lift is required consider a bellow style cup (e.g.33A-2 Long).

Step 3

Find the matching or corresponding diameter as illustrated in the detailed specifications.

Vacuum Source
The vacuum source, normally a pump, is important to making the vacuum cup perform.

A single source of vacuum (one pump to one vacuum cup) is the ideal as sharing the vacuum source can cause many problems.

Specifically if one vacuum cup leaks it can inhibit or reduce the effectiveness of the other cups. If however this is not possible consider using a cluster of smaller cups mounted on a manifold that distributes vacuum equally (when one cup cannot do the job).

Furthermore, you can consider several vacuum sources and distribute the vacuum to separate cups or consider mixing the vacuum source lines - if one cup leaks it will not affect the neighbouring cup.
